The Lanesborough Hotel is a Regency London landmark, situated on the corner of Hyde Park, and within walking distance to Buckingham Palace.

The Lanesborough Hotel reopened to guests in late Spring 2015 following a grand refurbishment designed by Alberto Pinto and 1508.

Working in collaboration with design partners Rose, we developed the wayfinding design solutions for the front and back of house areas within the Lanesborough hotel.

Using the wayfinding design strategy, Rose designed the graphics for the signage. We then took the design aspirations and engaged with bespoke brass lettering manufacturers that could achieve the design aesthetics.

The letters and numerals needed to be discreet, elegant and serve its functional purpose within the Lanesborough hotel.

The form of the letters was redrawn by Rose, to ensure the required thickness for brass lettering was achieved. The individual letters and numerals are individually laser cut and machine polished to gain a slightly rounded and warmer edge.

The letters were then left to 'age' (oxidise) to give the brass a warm red tone; a technique that was tested multiple times during the prototype stage to reach the desired colour.

Once the letters were ready, they were then hand-polished and clear lacquered to protect the finish and achieve the perfect result.

As well as managing the wayfinding strategy and manufacturing processes, we also carried out site surveys at each sign location and drew up elevations and application guidelines for installation. An exercise we oversaw to ensure the signage is accurately instaled, limiting the requirement for snagging works. Following the success of the Lanesborough hotel wayfinding and signage package, we were then asked to expand the signage and include the newly design Lanesborough Spa.
